Mississippi Welcome Center FAM Tour group stops in Yazoo

A group of Mississippi Welcome Center employees stopped by our Visitors Center on Tuesday on their way to a FAM Tour in the North Mississippi Delta. FAM Tours, or Familiarization Tours,  are an integral part of tourism in Mississippi.  Welcome Center employees learn about the varied offerings for tourists and travelers in areas all across the state by taking a close-up look at the area, led by the folks who know the area best.

In 2011, a group of about 30 Mississippi Welcome Center employees came to Yazoo County and took a 3-day FAM Tour. Their stops included: Bobby Rico Knives and Greg Harkins Woodworks in Vaughan, both members of the Mississippi Craftsmen’s Guild; Emmaus Retreat Center at No Mistake Plantation in Satartia; the historic Blue Front Cafe, home of the Bentonia Blues Festival, in Bentonia; Wells Ranch, a 250-acre working ranch and venue, in Bentonia; the Yazoo Planters Gin near Carter, a stop on the Yazoo County Agricultural Tour; Ricks Memorial Library in Yazoo City, the oldest library building still in use as such in the state; and shopping at places such as Downtown Marketplace, Grace Hardware and Knutty Knitters, Good Hope General Merchandise, and much more.  To say a great time was had by all is an understatement. Here are some photos from their visit in Yazoo County in 2011. You can see more on the Visit Yazoo page on Facbeook at the following link:  Yazoo County 3-Day FAM Tour 2011

It was so good to see some familiar faces again on Tuesday, as well as meeting a few of the “newbies” to the welcome center family! Thank you all for everything you do for Yazoo County and Mississippi tourism.  We appreciate you taking the time to learn about what we all have to offer the over 2 million travelers and tourists who come through your doors every year.
