“Did you know kids spending time in nature: Builds Confidence, Promotes Creativity and Imagination, Teaches Responsibility, Provides Different Stimulation, Gets Kids Moving, Makes Kids Think, and Reduces Stress and Fatigue” (https://childmind.org/article/why-kids-need-to-spend-time-in-nature/)?

The Panther Swamp NWR Annual Kid’s Fishing Rodeo is designed to provide children a chance to experience the outdoors and learn about fishing. Our goal is to instill a lifelong love of the great outdoors in our young people. This event provides opportunities for families to share fun and quality time together while participating in one of our nation’s favorite pastimes.

The event is open to all children age 15 and under. Admission is free, however, participants are required to register onsite between 9 AM – 11 AM. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Adults may assist the children but are not allowed to fish until after the event closes at 1 PM. USFWS will stock the Headquarters Pond with catfish. Fishing poles and bait are provided. Children can also choose to participate in BB and Bow Shoot Activities.

Together, we will be able to encourage children to develop a stewardship ethic and promote the great outdoors as a family activity. Many thanks to our volunteers, community sponsors, and partners who make this annual event possible. Donations can be made to Mississippi Lower Delta Partnership for the “Kids Fishing Rodeo, May 19, 2018”. Thank you for your continued support of the Refuge and especially of the “Kid’s Fishing Rodeo”.
