Yazoo Brings Home Two Delta Best Awards

October 24, 2014 – Yazoo City, MS – Today, the Yazoo County Convention & Visitors Bureau (Visit Yazoo), and local business people Paul and JoAnn Adams, were each honored with an award from the Mississippi Delta Strategic Compact in Greenwood at Mississippi Valley State University for “Delta Best Tourism” 2014, in recognition of their “outstanding contributions for the betterment of the Mississippi Delta.” The Mississippi Delta Strategic Compact presented their 2014 Delta Best Awards today in the areas of Tourism, Education, Economic Development, and Healthcare at the 4th Annual Future of the Mississippi Delta Conference.

Paul and JoAnn Adams are Yazoo-area business owners who, among their other ventures, own and operate the Main Street Hotel, The No Smoking Smokehouse, and Main Street Market – all in downtown Yazoo City. Thanks in part to their hard work in restoring many of Main Street’s historic buildings and their fresh and colorful approach to the renovations in painting the buildings in bright colors, the Yazoo City downtown has seen a revitalization in recent years. The couple were honored in 2013 with an award from the Mississippi Tourism Association for Tourism Investment, along with several other awards the couple has received from organizations in the area for their hard work and dedication to Yazoo.

Earlier this year, the Yazoo County CVB was awarded “CVB of the Year” from the Mississippi Tourism Association for the third consecutive year. The non-profit organization, started in 1993, works to promote Yazoo County as a tourism destination, and offers grant and event sponsorship programs to encourage events and tourism development in their area. The CVB also presents the annual Fire & Feast BBQ Competition & Festival each September, a Memphis Barbecue Network sanctioned event, bringing competition BBQ teams to the Delta from as far away as New Jersey.

The Mississippi Delta Strategic Compact (MDSC) is a not-for-profit organization comprised of a 36 member board with representation from each of the 18 counties that makes up the Mississippi Delta. Their mission is to galvanize regional unity, teamwork and collaboration on issues that will revitalize the Delta and improve the quality of life for all citizens. The MDSC’s “Delta Best Awards” recognize individuals, businesses, and organizations that have made outstanding contributions for the betterment of the Mississippi Delta in the areas of Education, Healthcare, Tourism and Economic Development.
