Meet the CVB Interns!

Meet the CVB Interns! We are so pleased to announce that the participants in our 2014 Internship/Scholarship program have been chosen!  This is the inaugural year for our program, offered in an effort to educate high school students in Yazoo County of the importance of tourism to the economy of our area, and to encourage them to consider Tourism Management as a profession. This year’s group of young people was absolutely outstanding.  They made our decision both exciting and heartbreaking, as we would have loved to have taken each and every one of this fine group of students from Yazoo City and Yazoo County under our wings.  In the end, Ebony Preston and Norman Lewis II were our picks.  They will spend two months during this summer volunteering at the tourism office and visitors center in Yazoo City before heading off to college this fall. Ebony Preston is a current senior at

An award winning year in Yazoo County, Mississippi

Celebrating a successful 2013 in Yazoo County, and looking forward to a FABULOUS 2014! We are celebrating another award-winning year in Yazoo County tourism! The Big Move! The year started out on a high note with our move to the high-traffic area of Highway 49 (Jerry Clower Boulevard) in Yazoo City, and the opening of our all-new Visitors Center.  The support we received from the Yazoo County community has been wonderful, and our visitors have enjoyed the convenience.  Our new location has helped us to capture the attention of folks traveling through the city, as well as given our office staff the space and resources to be even more effective.  Our open house was held on January 17 (amid snow and an ice storm) and was well attended by local residents and tourism professionals from around the state.  Thank you for your support! Shopping Guide Update 2013 also brought in

The Legend of the Witch of Yazoo

The Witch of Yazoo Located in the middle of the historic section of Glenwood Cemetery, Yazoo City’s public cemetery, is a grave surrounded by chain links known as, “The Witch’s Grave”. The legend of the Witch of Yazoo became famous in Willie Morris’ book, Good Old Boy published in 1971. This story is an example of the unusual folklore surrounding Yazoo County. Many have pointed out that the grave and the legend were there long before Morris was born, and that the chain had been broken for a long time. According to the legend, the old woman lived on the Yazoo River, and was caught torturing fishermen who she lured in off the river.  The sheriff is said to have chased her through the swamps where she was half drowned in quicksand by the time the sheriff caught up with her.  As she was sinking, she swore her revenge on
